Pop becomes national news

Note the audience reactions, the Stoicism of the cinema staff, the lone policeman as security, and the length of hair that passed for "long hair" in the early 1960s.

Course description

Etude des développements et des structures politiques, économiques, sociaux et culturels et introduction à la vie contemporaine des communautés anglophones de l'Europe.

The course will concentrate on the English-speaking peoples of Europe, that is to say the English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh. Their relationship with other European countries, with English-speaking peoples in other continents, and with the wider world, will be considered where necessary, but not in a systematic fashion.

"Réalités contemporaines" should be taken somewhat in the sense of "l'histoire contemporaine" (often taken to begin in or around 1789). The realities studied will not be strictly contemporary: the course concentrates on the period from 1945 to 1997. There is a further course in the M.A. programme that looks at Britain since 1997, with a more strictly "contemporary" focus.
